Mike Shotwell is a nationally known collector of inscribed Civil War swords. He is a reader/research scholar at the Huntington Library where he has conducted research projects on many topics including the Lincoln assassination, 19th century concepts of honor, the Kentucky mountain feuds, tunnel construction in the post-war period, and the Irish involvement in the Civil War. His written works include articles for Gettysburg Magazine, novel manuscripts, and a current screenplay which he has written with his wife, Gwyneth. He has also given multiple lecturers and weapons presentations at universities, colleges and educational groups on Civil War campaigns and battles, and his expertise is often sought by collectors and dealers. Mike's collection holdings include swords owned and carried by noteworthy figures during the war as well as identified uniforms, drums and wall paper newspapers, which he and his wife display at national shows.
